A gentle key to wellbeing
Your spine plays a central role in how you move, breathe, and feel.
It helps you stand and move with ease. Protects the nervous system, and allows you to bend, twist, and respond to life with ease.
When the spine feels supported, everything else often begins to feel easier.
Why the spine matters
The spine is designed to move. Its natural curves absorb shock and support balance. The surrounding muscles provide stability while allowing flexibility and ease.
The nervous system runs through the centre of the spine, linking body and brain. When tension builds or movement becomes restricted, you may notice stiffness, fatigue, or discomfort.
Gentle movement and awareness help restore this natural ease.
Yoga’s gift for the spine
- Breath led movement helps mobilise the spine in all directions
- Postural awareness reduces strain in daily life
- Relaxation allows deeper muscles to release tension
- Gentle movement supports circulation and energy
Many people find that regular practice reduces discomfort, improves posture, and brings a greater sense of steadiness.

A simple practice
- Semi supine rest
Lie on your back with knees bent and feet hip width apart. Let your spine settle into the floor. Stay for a few minutes and follow your breath. - Gentle knee rocking
Slowly move both knees side to side. Only move within comfort. Notice how the lower back begins to ease. - Lengthening exhale
Rest again and allow the exhale to lengthen gradually. Notice how the body settles.
This simple sequence calms the nervous system and supports the spine.
A living connection
In yoga, the spine is often seen as more than structure. It is the central axis of the body, linking movement, breath, and awareness.
When we care for the spine, we support the whole system. Ease often begins to return, quietly and naturally.
