Yoga Therapy for Fatigue

Fatigue can feel like moving through fog — heavy limbs, clouded thoughts, and a constant pull towards rest that never seems to fully restore. For many, it’s not just “being tired”, but a deep exhaustion that seeps into body, mind, and spirit.

It may follow illness, chronic stress, hormonal change, emotional overwhelm, or prolonged periods of giving more than you have. Ordinary rest is often not enough — and pushing through can deepen the cycle.

Yoga therapy offers a different, gentler path.

Common fatigue challenges you may be facing

  • Persistent tiredness that doesn’t resolve with sleep
  • Brain fog, low motivation, or difficulty concentrating
  • Heaviness in the body or a sense of depletion
  • Disrupted sleep or waking unrefreshed
  • Ongoing post-viral or long-term exhaustion that flares with overexertion (including ME/CFS and Long COVID)
  • A push–crash cycle of overdoing and then needing to withdraw

Why energy regulation matters

Fatigue is often linked with nervous-system overload rather than lack of will or effort. When the body remains in a state of alertness or stress, energy cannot replenish fully.

Supporting the nervous system to settle — rather than pushing for more — allows energy to return gradually and sustainably, from the inside out.

How yoga therapy can support you in times of fatigue

This work is gentle, restorative, and paced carefully to meet you where you are. We focus on calming the nervous system, reducing internal strain, and supporting natural rhythms of rest and renewal.

Practices can be adapted for people living with post-viral fatigue and ME/CFS, where pacing and rest are essential.

  • Adaptive practice: Movement and rest are adapted to you — not the other way around.
  • Breath awareness: Gentle breath practices soften tension and support energy regulation.
  • Nervous-system care: Trauma-aware guidance prioritises safety, pacing, and deep rest.
  • Whole-person support: Movement, breath, sound, and guided relaxation work together.

What a fatigue-focused session looks like

Each session is shaped around your current energy levels. There is no expectation to push or perform. Online sessions are carefully adapted so you feel supported and able to rest deeply in your own space.

Sessions may include:

  • Restorative positions such as savasana, with options to support the knees or legs
  • Simple, mindful movements to reduce heaviness and restore gentle flow
  • Breath awareness to ease strain and invite balance
  • Optional healing sound practices such as gentle humming or toning
  • Guided relaxation or deep rest (e.g. yoga nidra)

Practices are always optional and responsive. Even small amounts of guided rest can make a meaningful difference.

A supportive 6-session fatigue pathway

Fatigue benefits from steadiness and continuity rather than one-off sessions. I usually recommend beginning with a short series of six sessions.

  • Weekly sessions at the start to establish safety, rest, and nervous-system regulation
  • Gentle progression that supports energy without triggering overexertion
  • Careful pacing and rest-based practices to avoid overexertion
  • Monthly follow-up sessions (as needed) to sustain balance and prevent relapse

This approach supports gradual change — without pressure or depletion.

Benefits you may notice over time

  • Improved sleep quality and restfulness
  • Greater steadiness and fewer energy crashes
  • Clearer thinking and improved focus
  • A calmer nervous system and improved resilience
  • Renewed trust in your body’s signals and limits

Simple home practices to support you

You’ll be guided in short, manageable practices to use between sessions — such as breath awareness, brief restorative rest, or gentle movements. These are designed to support recovery without becoming another demand on your energy.
