A restorative yoga pose for fatigue, stress and pain
Many people feel drained.
Not only from busy schedules, but from the constant pull of screens, devices and the stimulation of modern life.
Over time, the nervous system can become tired.
Energy feels scattered.
Rest becomes harder to access.
Yoga offers something simple.
Savasana.
The pose of rest and release.
Often practised at the end of a class, savasana can also be used at any time. A few minutes of supported rest can allow the body to soften and reset.
Why rest helps
When the body is supported, things begin to change.
- The breath softens
- Tension begins to release
- The nervous system settles
- Energy slowly returns
- The mind becomes quieter
These shifts are often subtle, but meaningful.
Ways to rest
You might lie flat on your back with the legs extended and arms resting by your sides.
If this is not comfortable, support can help.
- A cushion or bolster beneath the knees
- Knees bent with feet on the floor
- Resting on the side with cushions for support
- A folded blanket beneath the head
The aim is comfort.
The body feeling supported enough to let go.
How long to rest
Even a few minutes can help.
You might begin with three to five minutes.
Over time, you may find yourself resting for longer.
Let the body guide you.
What you may notice
There is nothing to achieve.
You may notice:
- The breath slowing
- The body becoming heavier
- The mind wandering
- A sense of quiet
Or you may notice very little at all.
Each experience is valid.
The body is learning in its own time.
Over time, savasana becomes familiar.
A place the body recognises.
A pathway back to rest.
